Helping Schools Prevent and Respond to Data Breach
PCAT and HSB Partner Up to Provide Data Compromise Coverage to Schools
Houston, Texas, February 10, 2015 – Virtually all school districts have data on students, employees and others which can be stolen, electronically “hacked” or lost through accidental or inadvertent release. The repercussions for someone who has lost personal information are often substantial and long-lasting.
In fact, schools must be able to notify those individuals affected by a breach. In addition, the district may wish to provide credit monitoring and identity restoration case management to those affected by the breach in order to reduce the impact to their reputation.
To help schools with this growing issue, PCAT | Property Casualty Alliance of Texas has partnered with HSB | Hartford Steam Boiler to provide data compromise coverage that is designed to help schools respond to the financial burden and service obligations of a data breach.
As of January 1, 2015, all PCAT member schools automatically received the new Data Compromise Coverage. The coverage is extensive and gives schools and school administrators peace of mind. The coverage includes response expenses for legal review, forensic information technology, public relations services, notifying affected individuals, as well as services to the affected individuals such as a help line, credit monitoring and case managers for victims of identity fraud. It also includes defense and liability costs with limits to help mitigate legal costs.
Giving school administrators, teachers and students peace of mind that their personal information is in safe hands will allow them to focus on their primary mission of education.
